Internships

An internship at The Wolf Group is designed to provide college students the opportunity to learn and gain experience in as broad array of service areas as possible. Interns receive extensive and comprehensive exposure to both investment management and international/expatriate taxation. This is a hands on and involved internship opportunity involving a very significant amount of substantive learning and experience.

Interns are introduced to personal financial planning and business accounting and financial statement compilation. They receive training and experience in the development of investment portfolios for high net worth individuals and in the ongoing management of those portfolios, utilizing appropriate wealth management techniques. In addition, interns obtain training and familiarity with expatriate income taxation and, in particular, the impact of global taxation on after-tax investment returns.

Each summer, projects that interns take on differ slightly depending on current events and topical client project opportunities. However, exposure includes services provided to clients (preparation of tax returns, expatriate tax review/research, portfolio development, and financial planning), training sessions, attendance at speaking engagements of the Firm’s senior members, inclusion in client meetings, review and research on various topics, etc.

In addition to specific client related projects, a sample of past intern projects and activities include:

  • Individual security analysis and tear sheet write up on findings for buy list consideration
  • Attendance at World Bank pre-retirement seminar
  • Author an article for the Firm’s quarterly investment newsletter
  • Group research and presentation to staff on investment opportunities in a particular industry
  • Individual research and presentation to staff on a technical tax related topic of interest
  • Aid in development of key marketing materials for firm initiatives
  • Weekly meeting with seasoned employees about investment topic of interest

The Wolf Group also strives to develop relationships with its staff and interns through organized activities outside the office. Past summer outings include a Washington Nationals Baseball game, an afternoon wine tasting, an outdoor crab feast, and numerous happy hours.

The Wolf Group employs its internship program to enhance the careers of capable and dedicated undergraduates, to promote the Firm at colleges and universities, and in recruiting full-time professional staff members. Accordingly, we seek internship applicants that possess a strong desire to consider The Wolf Group as a career option upon graduation. The objective of the program is to provide students with a very valuable experience while assisting the Firm in recruiting outstanding full-time staff.
